German rider Arnaud Friedrich was included on the entry list last year but was prevented from making his 24H Motos debut then because the 2018 race fell one day before his 18th birthday. He is back at Le Mans this year and at last able to compete in his first 24H Motos.
This year, 18-year-old Arnaud Friedrich is the youngest rider on the 24H Motos grid. He came to Le Mans to race in 2018 with LRP Poland, but was finally unable to compete. “My birthday is 21 April. Last year, I wasn’t allowed to race. I arrived before being given official authorisation to enter. I took part in the Pre-Le Mans tests and free practice sessions and I chalked up some good times. Later on, however, I got called up by the race control team, who told me that I was one day too young to compete in the race,” he tells us.
It was a huge disappointment for the young rider who had worked hard all year round and found sponsors with one goal in mind – racing in the 24H Motos.
This year, it’s second time lucky for Arnaud, who will be 19 on Sunday. He’s naturally aiming to see the chequered flag and to feature well in the standings.
“It’s a huge event for me, the biggest meeting of the season. It takes a lot of hard work to make it here, more work for the team than any other endurance world championship race.”
Friedrich will be sharing riding duties on the #90 BMW with fellow German Dominik Vincon and Polish rider Bartolomiej Lewandowski.
